Objectives

Objective Minimum Expected Coverage

Know and understand key stages of the material preparation for the electrode manufacturing

Active material handling, dosing and mixing. Binders and conductive additives.

Understand the specifics of the coating and drying technologies

Coating of the mixture to form slurry, handling the thin foil substrate, drying stages. Coating defects and optimisation procedures to improve coating weight and density.

Understand the calendaring process and its key parameters

Monitoring the line load, rolled gap and the roller velocity. Influence of calendering parameters on the thickness, porosity and density of the finished electrode. Other external factors influencing the overal electrochemical performance (such as temperature, moisture).

Understand the electrode slitting and its key parameters

Edge burrs, edge waviness, main dimensional tolerances. Role of slitting variables such as slitting speed, cutting accuracy, coiling tension.

On the line inspection and process monitoring

Operation of vision systems, analysis of the measured coating parameters (width, thickness, edge quality, defects), feeding back to ensure continuous improvement.
