Understand what a battery module and battery pack is |
Battery pack layouts for a particular application, e.g. Electric Vehicle, Marine, Static Storage. |
Understand the main components and organisation of a battery module and pack |
Cells (Cylindrical b. Pouch c. Prismatic). Busbar and high voltage front end (HVFE). Connectors, Cooling, Thermal management system, Battery management system, Manual service disconnects. |
Recognise potential issues with battery modules and packs |
Main systems including cooling, thermal management, battery management, connectors, busbar and high voltage front end (HVFE); risks associated with lack of cooling, form and function impacts. |
Understand the battery module and pack assembly joining technologies |
Initial sorting of incoming cells. Welding and joining techniques (conventional, laser and ultrasonic welding, mechanical fastening, riveting) from cell to module to pack. |
Understand the complete pack architecture and safety requirements |
Pack closure materials selection. Importance of enclosure to ensure battery pack safe operation (thermal and mechanical damage prevention, overcharge, shorts). |
Understand and perform End-of-line (EOL) testing of the assembled pack |
Perform and document all required tests, including electrical, mechanical, safety related. Ensure integration and proper functionality of BMS and thermal management. |

Battery cell to pack | ✅ Full | This three-day short course is an in-depth extension of our well-established WMG Battery School short-course, with a focus on battery systems and manufacturing. In industry, batteries are used in the module or pack level which are battery systems composed of hundreds of individual cells that require thermal and electrical management. In addition, many companies may not produce cells, but they assemble cells into modules and packs to tailor their specified applications – the battery manufacturing, meaning a skills gap in industry. Participants will gain in-depth understanding of Battery testing, management, predictive understanding, high voltage systems, mechanical integration, safety, and recycling. |
