Understand the electrical and electronic fundamentals in high and low voltage components

Basic electrical theories (Ohms law, voltage, electrical power, AC/DC current, resistance, electromagnetism). Sensors and actuators (to measure and control electrical systems). Types of components and interactions between components in EV systems.

Understand and implement health and safety legislation and industrial standards.

Safe operations, use of PPE, safe working environment (signage, barriers). Vehicle protective equipment.

Know and understand how to test, remove, and replace components in an electric vehicle.

Basic testing methods (sensors and visual inspection, functional testing, measurement and data uncertainty). Knowledge of components and their operation (low voltage batteries and high voltage battery packs, electric motors, cabling and relays, convertors, drive trains, power sources).

Know the electrical testing equipment and how to use it.

Electrical multimetrs, voltmeters, chargemeters. Hand tools and OEM specific equipment for assembling and disassembling. Testing and checking fault codes, voltage and current, wiring and routing, evaluating faults.

This qualification is for training providers and employers to deliver to learners in the 16-18 and 19+ age groups. These learners will have an interest in gaining the knowledge to work safely when carrying out repair activities on electric/hybrid vehicle high voltage systems.

It is therefore designed for those people who may encounter electric/hybrid vehicles within a routine maintenance situation. It also contains the knowledge and skills required to work safely around a vehicle that may have had damage to its high energy/electrical system.

This Award sized qualification offers an introduction to this specialised industry sector which in addition to complimenting their current industry qualifications and experience, will enable them to continue to work safely within their role.

Award in Component Removal and Replacement in Electric and Hybrid Vehicles RQF:Level 3

This qualification is designed for people looking to develop their knowledge and skills to allow them to safely carry out the removal and replacement of components on electric vehicle systems.

This qualification covers the competence and knowledge to safely carry out the removal and replacement of components in isolated high voltage systems in an electric vehicle. High voltage systems include the powertrain and ancillary systems. This qualification also ensures that candidates are aware of the effect that high voltage component technology has on other vehicle systems.

Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Combined Course Level 2 & 3 Partial

The content of this qualification has been designed to give the learners the knowledge and skills required to work safely on Electric/Hybrid vehicles whilst carrying out diagnostic, testing and repair activities. This may include vehicles that may have or had damage to their high energy/electrical system.

It contains two mandatory units EV2.2 and EV3.

EV2.2 covers all of the skills and knowledge from IMI Level 2 Award in Electric/Hybrid Vehicles Routine Maintenance Activities and EV3 covers skills in: working safely on an electric/hybrid vehicle, using information to carry out the task, carrying out repairs on high energy electrical systems, recording information and making suitable recommendations

As a result, learners successfully completing this qualification will acquire significant core knowledge and skills and the ability to remove and replace Electric/Hybrid vehicle high voltage components.
