Understand operational differences between EV and ICE

Main components of EV vs ICE (batteries, invertors, high voltage cables, charging equipment, electric motors and driveline). Types of EV architecture (BEV, HEV, PHEV, ER-EV). Types of charging systems (AC/DC, trickle, combined/hybrid).

Understand the health and safety principles

Health and safety at work act. Basic equipment regulations. High voltage safety and regulations. Types of PPE and working with them. Safe working environment. Emergencies and first aid procedures (electrical, fire, flood, chemical).

Know the specific hazards of working with EV

Identify main hazards (fire and thermal runaway, explosion, gasses, chemicals). Specific hazards related to batteries, capacitors, invertors, el. engines and drives.

This qualification is for training providers and employers to deliver to learners in the 16-18 and 19+ age groups. These learners will have an interest in gaining the knowledge to work safely within the automotive retail industry as it continues to see an increase in electric/hybrid vehicles entering the workplace.

It is therefore designed to provide learners with an introduction to the knowledge of safe working practices, the dangers surrounding and the precautions required to avoid potential injury when near electric/hybrid vehicles.

This Award sized qualification offers an introduction to this specialised industry sector which in addition to complimenting their current industry qualifications and experience, will enable them to continue to work safely within their role.

Award in Introduction to Electric and Hybrid Vehicle High Energy Systems RQF:Level 1

This qualification is for people who require the knowledge to work safely on or near electric vehicles but do not work on the vehicle’s high voltage system. This qualification does not deem someone competent to maintain, service or repair an electric vehicle’s high voltage systems and their components.

This qualification covers safe working practices and essential knowledge of the hazards associated with electric vehicles and the precautions to follow to avoid these.

Hybrid electric vehicles introduction Partial

This course will provide you with a broad technical knowledge and practical expertise of hybrid and electric vehicle (HEV) technologies, analysis, design, component selection and sizing at both system and vehicle level.

This course will serve as an introduction to HEV technologies. This five-day course will consist of a mix of lectures, case studies and some very unique practical (hands-on) sessions from both academic and industry specialists, to develop proficiency in a broad range of HEV (and its sub-systems) technologies. All delegates will receive a certificate of attendance at the end of the course.
